(Speakeasy) Currents, who announced the release of their Rise Records' debut album, Our Fates Lie in Tandem, on Friday, have announced a North American tour in support of the Feb. 12 release, with the month-long trek kicking off on Feb. 19 in Boston.
Tickets go on sale this Friday, Nov. 6, at 10 a.m. local time with an artist pre-sale live now. Vana and Dreamwake will support on all dates, with Vanna appearing Feb. 19 to 21, and Stick To Your Guns joining the lineup Feb. 22 through March 21.
Our Fates Lie in Tandem marks the Connecticut-based band's first full-length album in nearly four years and is also their most personal record yet. "There's some social commentary and a little bit of heartbreak too," vocalist Brian Wille explains. "I brought the wall down, so I could be more personal than ever before. Our Fates Lie in Tandem is not heavy for the sake of being heavy either. We agreed a track doesn't need to be 'a walking breakdown' in order to make an impact. So, you're getting the lows, the highs, and everything in between. There's a reason for each element and meaning behind every word."
The band previewed the 11-song release with "Retributioner", which offers a first look at the album's thematic and sonic range, examining the cost of holding on to one's principles in a world that rewards those who abandon them. Revolver included the track in their Best New Songs Right Now feature, saying the four-plus-minute song features "darkly anthemic hooks and boulder-crushing breakdowns." Knotfest said the album and single mark "a pivotal new chapter for the genre veterans," adding that the song "asserts the band's refined take on the genre with a track that shifts from expansive to explosive."
Chris Wiseman, Currents' guitarist and a driving force behind the production of the band's previous full-length albums, produced Our Fates Lie in Tandem, with additional production by Ricky Armellino and mixing by Jon Dolese (Chelsea Grin, Cane Hill).
